before the day 

joining 

     cheerleaders 

     in team colours 

the international champs

fists bumping 

in the air

the drumbeats

     supporters

     at the finish line

          

wind in whorls

forming halo

of coloured cheer

tipping over

     triumphant 

     winners splash 

     the Sarawak River

lights 

above the rowboat 

of the firewood

     in the distant 

     Mount Santubong

camp site

an overnight 

pitch and toss
