long and short

straw-like grasses

feeling the atmosphere

しみじみと藁のごとくの草であり　千秋訳

In Christina Chin’s haiku, we are drawn to the simplicity of nature’s forms—the "long and short straw-like grasses" bending in the wind, absorbing the atmosphere around them. This poem is an exercise in mindfulness, in being present with the world as it is. The grasses, varying in length but unified in their response to the breeze, symbolize the diversity and interconnectedness of life. Each blade, whether long or short, plays its part in the greater whole, feeling the invisible forces that shape their existence. This haiku invites us to pause and feel the atmosphere around us, to acknowledge the subtle influences that guide our lives, much like the wind guides the grasses.
